{diy} Cork Cardholders

This morning I woke up quite late, couldn’t sleep well last night as I have this annoying prickly heat, then had my first cup of coffee, walking around the garden, checking the plants and watering the new seeding pots. Finally, I went up to my desk just to check some emails. I received an ETSY email from Blanca, who are interested in the tutorial of cork card holders, and I said, yeah why not?! Since it’s been ages I didn’t do any tutorials. So here it is! šŸ˜€Ā

In this tutorial, I will show how to make 2 types of cork cardholders – one is without any effort, the other needs a bit of effort. It is very easy, fast and fun, and it can also be a project for kids (preferably the one without any effort – without using a cutter) if you are teaching them in the early education, to build their awareness towards recycling and upcycling.

These projects are perfect if you are a wine drinker or having lots of friends who like to drink wine – me, I got it from local tavernas (restaurants)! šŸ™‚ I’m going to start now, make sure you have all of these materials! šŸ˜‰

1. Prepare your materials; 11 corks (2 projects), any embellishment, cards, cutter & ruler (forgot to take its picture x_x) and hot glue gun

IMG_7423

2. Take 3 corks, make sure 2 of them have the same heights

IMG_7425

3. From the 2 same heights, take 1 and apply hot glue

IMG_7427

4. Glue the other one (the same heights)

IMG_7428

5. Now, apply hot glue on the 2 corks, forming a kind of triange

IMG_7431

6. It should look like this

IMG_7434

7. On the 2 same heights corks, use ruler to divide equally (this time I didn’t forget to take picture of ruler & cutter! yay!)

IMG_7435

8. Use cutter, to make a 5mm deep slice

IMG_7438

9. Make sure that 2 corks now are “connected”

IMG_7437

10. Then, make a mm away from the first slice, to create an opening so that you can slide the card

IMG_7441

11. Now, your card should be able to stand between the opening

IMG_7442

12. Prepare your embellishment, I use handmade layered satin flower, and apply hot glue

IMG_7443

13. Glue it on the side of the same heights

IMG_7446

14. Just like that! Place your card/food tag/product tag/price tag or any kind of tags – simple & beautiful! šŸ˜€

Now, the second tutorial, which is super easy and super fast, much less effort than the previous one, also (very) suitable for kids! šŸ™‚

IMG_7449

1. Prepare the rest of 8 corks, and make pairs of 2, you’re going to have 4 pairs now

IMG_7451

2. Fun part! Glue each pair by the round side of the corks

IMG_7452

3. You’re going to end up like this šŸ™‚

IMG_7453

4. All 4 pairs are ready to be assembled

IMG_7455

5. Now, apply glue on the front side

IMG_7457

6. Glue the next pair, make sure that it is leveled with the table

IMG_7458

7. 3 pairs glued together and it should be straight when you put it on the table or straight surface

IMG_7459

8. Now, decide which one is going to be the one to support the last pair and apply glue in the middle top of it

IMG_7460

9. This part is a bit tricky! The last pair should be “hanging” like above, only glued to 1 pair of cork

IMG_7415

That’s it! The last pair is actually to support the cards – Place your cards (don’t put too much as it might slide down) or tags

That’s all and you are ready to be in the center of attention when people start to notice those small but beautiful upcycle items on your table. These corks are also beautiful as food tags in the parties or even at the wedding dinner party as name tags for each guest, plus a nice “additional” souvenir for them to bring home. The most important is the last touch on it, you can embellish it with something lacy, ribbons, beautiful flowers (fresh/handmade), or even paint them – it’s all up to you! šŸ™‚

I hope that you like the “messy” tutorials, I called it “messy” because sometimes I don’t know how to express it with the exact words, but I do hope that the pictures talk more than the explanation, haha!

Special thanks to Blanca who requested this tutorial – I forgot how fun it is to make tutorials! šŸ™‚ Ahhh…and feel free to share your creations here! I would love to see them! šŸ™‚

Happy crafting! x
